Mailbox Post Replacement in Memphis: What to Check

By Mailbox Bros Memphis · Updated
A leaning mailbox does not always need an entirely new box, but the visible lean is only a starting point. The post, mounting board, fasteners, or footing may be responsible. Before requesting mailbox post replacement in Memphis, document the complete setup so the estimate can distinguish a reusable box from a support that needs attention.
Photograph the problem rather than forcing it
Take a wide view from a safe location, then close photos of the post near ground level, the connection beneath the box, and any visible concrete. Include cracks, corrosion, decay, or evidence of an impact. Do not push an unstable setup to test how far it moves, and do not disturb nearby utilities or pavement to expose the base.
Say when you first noticed the lean and whether anything changed around the site. A vehicle impact, landscaping work, or newly visible gap can help explain what needs closer inspection. Photographs cannot reveal the full buried condition, so the estimate may need a stated allowance or review process for concealed work.
Decide what can be reused
- The box: does the door close, is the body sound, and are the mounting points intact?
- The mount: does it fit the selected post and the box's hole pattern without improvised connections?
- The address display: can the existing numbers or plaque be removed and refitted cleanly?
- The support: is a decorative sleeve hiding a separate structural post that must be assessed?
A new post only saves money if the remaining parts are suitable. Retaining a worn mounting board or a damaged bracket can carry the same problem into the replacement. Ask the estimate to list exactly which parts stay and which parts are supplied.
Include removal in the scope
An old post may be attached to more concrete than is visible at the surface. Standard post-and-box removal is a $75 optional add-on for our standard installation scope; oversized footings, masonry, restricted access, and other nonstandard conditions need separate review. Do not assume every buried base fits that standard removal price.
The crew also needs to know whether nearby plants, irrigation, a driveway edge, or a narrow work area limit access. If you want to keep the old box or decorative parts, say so before removal. Parts that have deteriorated may not be reusable even when removed carefully.
Review the proposed support and placement
Choose a support compatible with the selected box and suitable for the roadside location. A heavier or more rigid post is not automatically a better choice. Use the Memphis placement guide to prepare postal and site questions, and arrange utility locating before excavation. Keep any HOA post or finish specification with the order.
An existing location is useful context, but it should not be treated as proof that the old height, setback, or support was correct. Confirm the intended position as part of the replacement scope, especially if the box size or mounting height changes.
Request a complete replacement estimate
Send your Memphis-area address, photos, the box model if known, and your preference for retaining or replacing it. Ask for separate lines or clear descriptions for the post, mount, labor, removal, and address features. Compare that with a complete package if several components are worn. A defined scope makes it easier to choose the repair that addresses the actual failure.
