New-Home Mailbox Installation in Memphis: A Checklist

By Mailbox Bros Memphis · Updated
Before buying a mailbox for a new Memphis-area home, confirm whether the property needs an individual box at all. Some developments use centralized mail delivery, and an address assignment does not by itself tell you what equipment to install. Start with the builder or developer and the local postal contact, then choose the product that fits the approved arrangement.
Establish who is responsible for each decision
Ask what the home purchase or construction scope includes. The builder may provide a mailbox, an HOA may specify a package, or the homeowner may need to arrange it separately. Record who supplies the product, who installs it, and who coordinates postal delivery. A missing assumption here can lead to two purchases or no installation when the home is ready.
For a property in Arlington, Lakeland, Collierville, or another Memphis-area community, use the documents for that actual development. A nearby older house or a mailbox you saw on a different street does not establish the rule for a new address.
Confirm the address and the approved design
Use the final assigned house number when ordering numbers or a custom plaque. Check spelling, directional terms, and any required street text before approving a made-to-order item. If your closing documents and builder's paperwork use different forms of the address, resolve the discrepancy before fabrication.
Obtain written HOA instructions if applicable. Identify the complete package, including the post, finish, cap, bracket, and plaque. If the required model is unavailable, seek approval for a specific alternative rather than ordering the closest-looking product and hoping it is accepted.
Review the curb after major site work
Driveway work, final grading, sidewalks, and landscaping can affect the usable space around a mailbox. Send current photographs instead of an early construction rendering. The installer needs to see the actual road edge, approach, and nearby improvements before confirming the proposed position and removal or excavation scope.
If other trades will work in the same area, coordinate the sequence. A mailbox installed before heavy site work is complete can be damaged or end up surrounded by a different final grade. Discuss the timing with the builder and installer rather than selecting a date in isolation.
Check that the full kit has arrived
- Confirm the box and post match the approved model and finish.
- Inventory the mounting plate, adapter, fasteners, and any supplied instructions.
- Check that custom numbers or plaques match the final address.
- Inspect the shipment for damage while packaging and order details are still available.
- Tell the installer about anything missing before the appointment.
A product advertised as a mailbox may exclude its support. A decorative post sleeve may need a separate structural post. Send the complete product listing with the quote request so the scope accounts for what is actually included.
Schedule after the dependencies are settled
Allow time for product delivery, approvals, utility locating, and site readiness. Online appointment choices begin at least five calendar days ahead, but a selected date does not remove those dependencies. Let the team know about closing-day constraints and other work at the property so availability can be reviewed realistically.
For your Memphis installation request, send the final address, the approved product, curb photos, and the builder or HOA details relevant to the mailbox. A complete packet helps turn a last-minute move-in task into a planned installation with a clear scope.
